We took an old latch produced in the 1800's as inspiration for our new traditional thumb latch. Made of modern stainless steel and zinc/aluminum alloy components it will never rust. We finish it with a high quality polyester exterior grade black powder coating and supply stainless steel fasteners.

We have two versions with either a short or long thumb bar (one for gates up to 3" thick and one for gates over 3" thick and up to 5" thick) to accommodate just about every situation.

This latch is traditional styled to accentuate New England charm. At the same time it is very functional and robust. On the bar side a simple mechanical locking mechanism has been incorporated into the design.

We recommend 1/2" between the gate and post when using the Hampton Thumb Latch for wood but space can be up to 1.0".

Need To Be Lockable?

If a lockable latch is required, Snug Cottage Hardware has Padlock Eyes which can be readily attached to the gate/door and posts.

Gate Stop

We strongly recommend the use of a Gate Stop with all gates to prevent damage to the gate and latch due to excessive slamming or wind gusts.
